This Advanced Level course corresponds to the content of a first-year college or university music program, and is designed to prepare students to write the Level 9 Harmony Examination. Students should be at least 14 years old as of the start of the course.
It is recommended that students complete RCM Level 8 Theory before registering for this course. The completion of weekly homework assignments is required.
fundamentals of harmonic language
introduction of two- and four- part writing
writing in four parts in the style of J.S. Bach's chorales
melody writing and melodic decoration
harmonic and structural analysis (including 18th century dances and inventions)
Each course level is designed to be completed in 10 weeks, with one 60-minute class per week. This structure allows you to prepare thoroughly for your RCM exam in December.
Don't worry! All classes are recorded and made available to you. You can watch the recordings at your convenience and never miss a lesson.
If you complete the course, attempt the RCM exam, and don't pass, you can retake the entire class for free. We're committed to your success!
