This accelerated, Advanced Level course corresponds to the content of a second-year college or university music program, and is designed to prepare students to write the Level 10 Harmony & Counterpoint Examination. Students should be at least 14 years old as of the start of the course.
Students must have completed RCM Level 9 Harmony before registering for this course. The completion of weekly homework assignments is required. Please see Course Outline below for more details.
Course Outline:
the Middle Ages (chant, organum, motet, chanson, instrumental dance music)
the Renaissance Era (motet, mass, madrigal, chanson, keyboard music)
the Baroque Era (opera, cantata, concerto grosso, orchestral suite, keyboard music)
the Classical Era (symphony, oratorio, opera, piano concerto, sonata, chamber music)
Each course level is designed to be completed in 10 weeks, with one 60-minute class per week. This structure allows you to prepare thoroughly for your RCM exam in December.
Don't worry! All classes are recorded and made available to you. You can watch the recordings at your convenience and never miss a lesson.
If you complete the course, attempt the RCM exam, and don't pass, you can retake the entire class for free. We're committed to your success!
